Current Projects
Lighting Audits
What is it? Surveying and analyzing University of
Iowa building lighting schemes to maximize efficiency. Benefits?
Reducing energy usage by decreasing usage and by lowering wattage with
retrofitting. Contact:

Wind Energy Assessment
What is it? A partnership with Quaker Oats to
assess the wind energy potential of their Cedar Rapids plant roof space. The
goal of the project will be to set up a pilot turbine in the most advantageous
rooftop location for initial power generation. Benefits?
Wind energy is renewable. Wind projects are local, keeping more money in the
communities where the projects are located. No carbon or other pollutants are
released during power generation. Contact: Ted

Vehicle Sustainability Checks
What is it? A free roadside tire pressure check for
vehicles. The check includes a small pamphlet of tips on how to make one's
vehicle more sustainable. Benefits? The DOT estimates
4 million gallons of fuel per day are wasted due to low tire pressure. Properly
inflated tires increase gas mileage by ~3%, which is equivalent to $0.07 per
gallon. Properly inflated tires last longer. Contact:

Habitat for Humanity Home Energy Monitoring
What is it? Evaluating and installing energy
monitoring technologies on major appliances and the heating, ventilation and
cooling systems. Benefits? Real-time displays of home
energy usage and costs can change homeowner behaviors and save energy.
